James McCormick threw a shutout to lead Harmony Grove past Poyen 6-0 on Wednesday.
The Cardinals got things started in the first inning when Sean Small grounded out, scoring one run. They scored three runs in the second inning. Logan Gartin, Braden Carman, and Small all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
One bright spot for Poyen was a single by Goodman in the second inning.
McCormick got the start for Harmony Grove. He allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out three. Goodman started the game for Poyen. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out one. Smith threw one-third of an inning in relief.
The Cardinals totaled nine hits. Ethan Wetzel and Carman all managed multiple hits for Harmony Grove. Wetzel led the team with three hits in three at bats. Wetzel also led with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.
Harmony Grove was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Jared Toler had the most chances in the field with six. Poyen didn’t commit a single error in the field. Conner had the most chances in the field with seven.
