Boys Varsity Baseball · The Cardinals jump on Jessieville early and coast to 18-5 win


The Harmony Grove Cardinals jumped out to an early lead on Jessieville and captured an 18-5 victory on Tuesday at Jessieville.

Ten runs in the first three innings allowed the Cardinals to put the game away early.

An RBI single by Jordan Jones, a hit by pitch, and a two-run single by Zane Rogers in the first inning and an RBI single by Jones during the second inning fueled Harmony Grove’s offense early.

Jones racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Cardinals .

Brinson Cornwell got the win for the Cardinals despite allowing five runs over five innings. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered seven hits.

The Cardinals easily handled Jessieville pitching as six hitters combined for 11 hits, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Three runs in the bottom of the second helped Jessieville close its deficit to 5-4. A groundout by Dakoa Fortenberry, an RBI single by Dylan Anderson, and an RBI single by Dalton Mclard set off Jessieville rally.

The Cardinals increased their lead with five runs in the third. A ground out scored Tyler Hamilton to get Harmony Grove on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Zach Caplinger’s triple, bringing home Rogers and Braden Carman.

The Cardinals tacked on another six runs in the fourth. A triple by Cornwell ignited the offense, plating Hamilton and Carman.

The Cardinals piled on two more runs in the top of the fifth. A bases loaded walk scored Hamilton for the inning’s first run.

The Cardinals move to 13-1, finish conference play 5-1, and are Co-Conference Champs, finishing tied with Mayflower.  The Cardinals will take the #2 seed in next weeks 5-AAA District Tournament that starts next Wednesday night.  The Cardinals will host Benton on Thursday, April 23rd and honor their seniors for Senior Night.
