The Harmony Grove Cardinals jumped out to an early lead on Perryville and captured a 24-5 victory on Tuesday at Harmony Grove.
With 20 runs in the first three innings, the Cardinals left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
An RBI single by Logan Clay, a two-run single by Cody Icenhower, a two-run double by Caleb Wood, an error, an RBI single by Braden Carman, a passed ball, and a two-run double by Logan Clay during the first inning supplied the early offense for the Harmony Grove Cardinals .
Wood racked up six RBIs on two hits for the Cardinals, four coming on a grand slam.
Brinson Cornwell got the win for the Cardinals . He allowed four runs over four innings. Cornwell struck out one, walked five and gave up four hits.
The Cardinals easily handled Perryville pitching as eight hitters combined for 16 hits, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
The Cardinals tacked on another 10 runs in the third. A bases loaded walk scored Cornwell for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Wood’s home run, plating Zach Caplinger, Dillon Pierce and Icenhower. Right after Wood’s grand slam, Alec Shilling made it back to back home runs with a solo shot himself.
The Cardinals built upon their lead with four runs in the fourth. Carman started the inning with a single, scoring Alec Shilling. That was followed up by Jordan Jones’s single, bringing home Carman.
The Cardinals move to 11-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. They are scheduled to play at Jessieville on Thursday, April 16 at 4:30.
