Hot bat leads the Lady Cardinals  past Genoa Central Lady Dragons 5-4

Kristen Dempsey clubbed two home runs to carry Harmony Grove to a 5-4 win over Genoa Central Lady Dragons at Harmony Grove School in seven innings.

The Lady Cardinals would not relinquish the lead as the Lady Dragons were unable to weather a five-run third inning deficit.

Genoa Central scored four runs in the fifth on an RBI double by #6 and a two-run error. Still, the Lady Dragons couldn’t catch Harmony Grove.

Dempsey kept contact to a minimum, striking out nine Lady Dragons batters. Dempsey allowed one earned run on five hits and four walks over seven innings.

#6 ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just six innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

Harmony Grove never trailed after scoring two runs in the second on a two-run home run by Dempsey.

Malvern Lady Leopards falls 12-3 at the hands of the Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals

The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals beat Malvern Lady Leopards on Saturday 12-3 at Harmony Grove High School in seven innings.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the second, with five lead changes.

Harmony Grove pulled out the win thanks to a strong second inning. An error scored Faith Otts and gave the Lady Cardinals the lead for good.

Leighton Withers racked up five RBIs on three hits for the Lady Cards.

LJ Helmich recorded the win for Harmony Grove. She allowed three runs over five innings. Helmich struck out four, walked none and gave up five hits.

#16 couldn’t get it done on the rubber for Malvern, taking a loss. She lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

It didn’t take long for Lady Cardinals to respond as they scored two runs of their own in the first. Harmony Grove scored on and a bases loaded walk by #1.

The Lady Cardinal survived Lady Leopards’ surge and put up one run of their own in the third. Harmony Grove scored on an RBI double by Otts.

Harmony Grove added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The inning got off to a hot start when Brooke Roush tripled, bringing home Otts and Robyn Baxley. That was followed up by Withers’ two-run home run, plating Roush.

The Lady Cardinals increased their lead with three runs in the sixth. Roush kicked things off with a single, scoring Baxley. That was followed up by Withers’ double, scoring Madison Mickle and Taylor Dixon.

Malvern Lady Leopards fall 16-0 in 3 innings in the second meeting on Saturday against the Harmony Grove.
