Girls Varsity Softball · The Lady Cardinals sixth-inning burst enough to top Bauxite Lady Miners, 8-2

The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals beat Bauxite Lady Miners 8-2 in seven innings on Thursday at Harmony Grove after a five-run explosion in the sixth inning.

The Lady Cardinals scored in the sixth on a solo home run by Kristen Dempsey, an RBI single by Brooke Roush, an RBI single by Faith Otts, a groundout by Josee Carman, and an RBI single by LJ Helmich.

Harmony Grove hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for the Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals Varsity came when Otts homered in the fifth inning and Roush homered in the fifth inning.

Otts racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Lady Cardinals.

Helmich got the win for the Lady Cardinals. She allowed two runs over five innings. She struck out two, walked none and surrendered four hits.

#20 ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

The bottom of the first saw the Lady Cardinals take an early lead, 1-0. Leighton Withers singled to start things off before Helmich doubled, scoring Withers.

Harmony Grove didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the fifth inning when they scored on two solo blasts.
