Girls Varsity Softball · The Lady Cards fall to the Benton Lady Panthers 6-5


Leighton Withers did all she could to give the Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Benton Lady Panthers, as the Lady Cardinals lost 6-5 in seven innings at Benton High School on Wednesday.

Withers racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Lady Cards. She doubled in the first and fifth innings.

#27 got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed four runs over four innings. #27 struck out three, walked four and gave up four hits.

Kristen Dempsey took the loss for the Harmony Grove. She lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked seven, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

The top of the first saw the Lady Cardinals take an early lead, 2-0. The Lady Cards attack began with a double from Faith Otts. A passed ball then moved Otts from second to third. Withers doubled, scoring Otts. Harmony Grove then tacked on more runs when Carman scored on a groundout by LJ Helmich.

Benton brought home one run in the second inning, and matched that run total in the seventh. In the second, the Lady Panthers scored on an RBI single by #53, plating #18.

The Lady Panthers quickly matched Harmony Grove strong inning with a four-run inning of their own in the fifth. The Benton Lady Panthers scored on a two-run single by #20 and a two-run double by #22.
