Fountain Lake hands Cards first loss of the season


The Fountain Lake Cobras dropped the Cardinals Friday night by the score of 35-7.  It was the first loss of the young season for Harmony Grove.  The Cobras ended the night with 310 yards of total offense with 249 through the air and 61 yards on the ground.  The Cardinals ended the night with 176 total yards; 71 would come through the air and they would rush for 105 yards.

Fountain Lake would find the endzone on the Cardinals’ first possession when the Cobras’ outside linebacker picked off senior quarterback Hunter Hilson and returned it 38 yards for the game’s first score. The Cobras would put another score on the board on their third possession with a 70 yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0 late in the first quarter.

The Cardinal offense would be forced to a three and out on the following possession.  Fountain Lake would take advantage of the defensive stop and march down the field in 8 plays and score on a 9 yard touchdown pass to go ahead 20-0 midway in the second quarter. They would strike again late in the second quarter with a 80 yard touchdown pass extending their halftime lead to 27-0.

In the second half, Fountain Lake would take the opening drive 60 yards in 8 plays to score another touchdown.  The Cobras would go for two and get it to push the lead to 35-0.  Harmony Grove would answer with a drive of their own going 59 yards in 10 plays that would be topped off with junior Logan Whitley rushing for a 10 yard touchdown.  William Vasquez would score the extra point to cut the deficit to 35-7.
